Water Conservation Tips at Work

Water conservation is important in all aspects of our lives, so when you think that many of us spend around 7 or 8 hours every day at work, then it makes good sense to ensure that we don’t waste any water while we’re there doesn’t it?

You might not find it quite as easy to inspire water conservation practices among your work colleagues as you do your family, but you owe it to yourself and to the rest of the world to try. Here are just a few things which you can think about:

  1. Check all of the plumbing for leaks – and if it isn’t your business then persuade the bosses to have stuff checked out, tell them it will save them money too, that should persuade them.
Install flow restrictors/aerators etc on faucets in the washrooms.
  2. Remove any automatic flushing devices on the toilets and replace with water efficient designs, or if they are old style toilets then place something heavy into the cistern to reduce the amount of water used for each flush.
  3. If you business uses lots of water as a cooling agent for machinery etc, investigate ways in which it can be utilized afterwards for other purposes.
  4. Don’t have a window washer every single week, it’s really not necessary. Have your windows washed only as and when it is necessary (sorry to all commercial window cleaning companies out there).
  5. Use the same principles when watering plants and landscaped areas as you would at home in the garden.
  6. Encourage all of your staff and colleagues to help save water too.

Just by saving a small amount of water each day, everybody can make a huge difference. Just imagine if everybody saved one gallon of water every day – after all, every little helps.
